Top-grade hospitals in Shenzhen

Looking for the “best” hospitals in Shenzhen? The right one depends on your medical needs — tell us yours and a person on our team matches you with hospitals and doctors that fit. The official yardstick for a hospital's overall level is its grade: Grade III, Class A (三级甲等) is the highest tier in China's hospital grading system. Of the hospitals we profile in Shenzhen, 2 state this grade on an official page: Peking University Shenzhen Hospital and The Seventh Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University. We have not yet found the grade of the others on an official page. A grade describes a hospital's scale and scope, not whether it is right for your condition. How hospital grades work.

International care in Shenzhen

Shenzhen sits directly across the border from Hong Kong and is one of the nine cities and regions where China is piloting wholly foreign-owned hospitals under a work plan announced in late 2024. In 2026 the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission announced that four Shenzhen hospitals had been named in Guangdong Province’s first batch of international medical service pilot hospitals. Several of the city’s large public hospitals run dedicated international medical units with their own booking lines.

Arriving from Hong Kong

Many international patients reach Shenzhen through Hong Kong. Border crossings such as Futian and Luohu connect directly to the Shenzhen metro, and some hospitals publish a separate Hong Kong telephone line for enquiries. Confirm the campus and building of your appointment before you travel, as the city’s major hospitals are spread across several districts.

What we are still collecting

We have not yet found an official English-language guide for foreign patients published by the Shenzhen government comparable to those in Beijing and Shanghai. Until we do, the general steps in our guide to how medical care in China works apply.
