Dental Care in China: Hospitals, Access and Published Prices

口腔

Which hospitals in China list dental departments, how international patients can reach them, and what the government and hospitals publish about prices — with a source for every fact.

Quick answer. International patients can reach dental care at the stomatology department of a large general hospital. For implants there is an official benchmark: at tertiary public hospitals the national target for the service fee for a single conventional implant is no more than ¥4,500, with the implant and the crown charged on top at procurement prices that average a little over ¥900 and ¥300. International and special-needs clinics set their own prices.[3],[4]

Where dental care is offered

Dentistry in a Chinese hospital is the stomatology department (口腔科) or a stomatology centre. Peking University Shenzhen Hospital and China-Japan Friendship Hospital each list a stomatology centre; Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital lists a dental clinic and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Compare hospitals in our directory

The table lists every hospital we profile whose official department directory includes dental departments. The first number is how many such departments it lists; the full list, with its source, is on each hospital's profile.

Language and billing entries come from each hospital's international unit page or a government directory, as cited on its profile. "Not yet confirmed" means we have not found it on an official source — it does not mean the service is unavailable.

Official figures for dental implants

Prices are in Chinese yuan (RMB), as the hospital or the government published them, with the date of the list. They are list prices, not quotes. International and special-needs departments of public hospitals are market-priced: each hospital sets and publishes its own prices for them.

In 2022 the National Healthcare Security Administration set a national target for implant fees at public hospitals. The ¥4,500 figure is the service fee for the whole process — consultation, imaging, placing the implant and placing the crown — and does not include the implant or the crown. Regions may set their own level within limits. The administration publishes the three components but not a total.

Fees at international and special-needs clinics

The figures above apply to standard services. Special-needs and international clinics are priced by the hospital. Peking University Shenzhen Hospital lists special-needs consultations at its stomatology centre at ¥220 (associate chief physician), ¥360 (chief physician) and ¥800 (senior specialist) per visit (September 2026). The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital lists a special-needs full-mouth examination and treatment plan at ¥1,375 or ¥3,500 (list of January 2025).

How to arrange a visit

Start with the hospital's international unit rather than general registration: it is the part of the hospital set up for international patients, and it can tell you which dental services it works with. You can also send ChinaMedMap a request and a person on our team will contact the hospital for you.

Foreign patients seen in international departments pay by commercial insurance or out of pocket; China's public medical insurance does not apply. Ask whether your insurer has a direct-billing arrangement with the hospital.

Send your records before you travel, so the hospital can tell you whether it can see you and what it expects the visit to involve. See Preparing Medical Records and International Patient Planning for visas and longer stays.

Questions to ask the international unit before you book
AskWhy it matters
Would I be seen in the standard clinic or a special-needs or international clinic? The government target applies to standard services; other clinics set their own prices.
Can you give a written estimate that lists the service fee, the implant and the crown separately?Official figures are published per component.
How many visits are needed, and how far apart? It decides whether you need one trip or several.
Which language will the dentist use?Language support is often confirmed for the international unit, not for each department.
Can you bill my insurer directly?Direct billing depends on the insurer and the hospital's agreements.

Questions international patients ask

How much does a dental implant cost in China?

At tertiary public hospitals the national target for the service fee for a single conventional implant is no more than ¥4,500, and the implant and crown are charged on top at procurement prices averaging a little over ¥900 and ¥300. Special-needs and international clinics set their own prices, so ask for a written estimate.[3],[4]

Do foreigners pay more than Chinese patients?

For standard services in a public hospital, Beijing's official guide says foreigners pay the same fees as residents. International and special-needs departments are market-priced, and each hospital publishes its own list.[6],[7]

Will my insurance pay?

China's public medical insurance does not cover foreign patients in international departments. Some hospitals settle directly with commercial insurers, so check with your insurer and the hospital's international unit before you travel.[8]

This page covers how to access care and what we could confirm from official sources. It does not say whether a treatment is right for you — only a qualified clinician who has reviewed your case can do that. ChinaMedMap is not an emergency service.
