Top-grade hospitals in Guangzhou

Looking for the “best” hospitals in Guangzhou? The right one depends on your medical needs — tell us yours and a person on our team matches you with hospitals and doctors that fit. The official yardstick for a hospital's overall level is its grade: Grade III, Class A (三级甲等) is the highest tier in China's hospital grading system. Of the hospitals we profile in Guangzhou, 2 state this grade on an official page: Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital and The Sixth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University. We have not yet found the grade of the others on an official page. A grade describes a hospital's scale and scope, not whether it is right for your condition. How hospital grades work.

International care in Guangzhou

Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province and one of the nine cities and regions where China is piloting wholly foreign-owned hospitals under a work plan announced in late 2024. Alongside that, some of the city’s large university hospitals have opened dedicated international units.

Check the campus

Guangzhou’s major hospitals are spread across a very large metropolitan area. The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, for example, lists campuses in Yuexiu, Huangpu and Nansha, and its International Medical Center is at the Nansha campus rather than the historic main campus. Before you book travel or accommodation, confirm which campus and building your appointment is in.

What we are still collecting

We have not yet found an official English-language guide for foreign patients published by the Guangzhou government comparable to those in Beijing and Shanghai. Until we do, the general steps in our guide to how medical care in China works apply.
